A clock shows 3:15. What is the measure of the angle between the hour and minute hands?
Show the answer
Answer: B. 7.5°. At 3:15, minute hand is at 90° (pointing at 3). Hour hand has moved 15 min past the 3, which is 15/60 × 30° = 7.5° past the 90° mark. Angle = 7.5°.
If 5 workers can complete a job in 12 days, how long would it take 3 workers at the same rate?
Show the answer
Answer: C. 20 days. Total work = 5×12 = 60 worker-days. For 3 workers: 60÷3 = 20 days.
The average of five numbers is 20. If one number is removed, the average of the remaining four is 18. What number was removed?
Show the answer
Answer: C. 28. Sum of 5 numbers = 100. Sum of remaining 4 = 72. Removed number = 100 − 72 = 28.
A number is doubled, then 10 is subtracted, giving a result of 30. What was the original number?
Show the answer
Answer: B. 20. Work backwards: 30 + 10 = 40, then 40 ÷ 2 = 20. Or: 2x − 10 = 30, so 2x = 40, x = 20.
A rectangular garden is 3 meters longer than it is wide. If its perimeter is 42 meters, what is its area?
Show the answer
Answer: C. 108 m². Let width = w. Length = w + 3. Perimeter: 2(w + w + 3) = 42 → 2(2w + 3) = 42 → 2w + 3 = 21 → w = 9. Area = 9 × 12 = 108 m².
